Engaging with public sector employees and raising awareness are critical components of the year-round efforts of the office.
Raising awareness is particularly important in the wake of a new survey showing that while the majority of Alberta’s public sector employees are willing to report a workplace wrongdoing, most don’t know where to go or how they’re protected under the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act.
To help spread the word, representatives from the Public Interest Commissioner’s office spoke with attendees at the Calgary City Teachers’ Convention and Greater Edmonton Teachers’ Convention trade shows. The Calgary trade show was attended by more than 10,000 guests, drawn from teachers from Calgary’s two public school boards. In Edmonton, the event welcomed close to 9,000 delegates from Edmonton Public, Edmonton Catholic, Fort MacMurray Public, and Fort MacMurray Catholic school districts.
