Fostering collaborative working relationships with designated officers

The office of the Public Interest Commissioner is pleased to host the 2023 Alberta Public Interest Disclosure Conference.  This conference will provide training, information, and the opportunity to discuss issues impacting designated officers and other individuals involved with managing and investigating complaints under the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act.

We look forward to welcoming registrants for a half-day of learning and the opportunity to foster collaborative working relationships.

Agenda topics will include:

  • Role of the designated officer

          This session will provide information on the statutory role and responsibilities of designated officers

  • Case studies

This session will review two cases from the Commissioner’s office – a case involving findings of reprisal, and a case where wrongdoing was mitigated through the Commissioner’s informal resolution process

  • Mitigating bias during Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act investigations

This session will provide advice to designated officers on how to manage and mitigate bias during investigations 

  • Answers to your questions

Presenters will provide detailed answers to questions submitted in advance by designated officers

Who should attend: Individuals delegated as designated officers under the Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act, or other individuals tasked with managing and investigating complaints under the Act.
